Behaviour for Bullies is back in session!

Behaviour for Bullies!

Wow! Lots is going on in the world of pit-ed classes. We're into our third session of Behaviour for Bullies and what a resounding success! We started these classes to help get our foster and newly adopted dogs on the right track to becoming the full-fledged ambassadogs that they were born to be, but they've sort of taken on a life of their own. We now provide training to several shelter dogs, as well as to families who have just brought home their new Pit Bull from the shelter and want to get started on the right foot. Our dogs come out every week, rain or shine, to practice their obedience and work on their skills! Check out some of the pictures to see what we're learning.

This program would not be possible without the knowledge and of our trainers- Sarah and Allison with RocketDog Training. They love the bully breeds and report since starting these classes their pitty enrollment is up. This means more Pit Bulls and their owners are recognizing the importance of early socialization and training to ensure that their dogs become well-rounded canine citizens. Check out their web-page at www.rocketdog.ca they offer Puppy Kindergarten, Basic and Advanced Obedience, Agility and the oh-so favorite "Trick for Treats" class which our very own alumni Frankie Waffles is a proud graduate.

We also just had our pilot run of two information sessions. These classes were geared specifically towards the handlers to help us better understand our canine counterparts. The first one was entitled "Talking in Doglish: The Wonderful World of Canine Body Language" and the second one was "Rehabilitating Dog-Reactive Dogs." The Vancouver SPCA graciously donated their board room for us to hold them and we had over 20 people enrolled in each class. They were a resounding success!

Our current session of Behaviour for Bullies is full, but if you would like to enroll in the next session send us an email at bullybuddies@gmail.com and we will send you the registration form. A new session will be starting at the beginning of May. If you are interested in training or transporting some dogs in our foster program we'd love to have you help out. Thanks to all of the volunteers who give up their Saturday afternoons to train our dogs- we couldn't do this without your support so a big bully bum wag to you! A special congratulations to Kalee who offered to train Boodha, a great dog from the Vancouver Animal Shelter, and on the first week out fell so in love with him that she adopted him right then and there!

Ciao for now!
